Description

As a part of the FaithQuestions study series, “How Does Reading the Bible Help My Faith?” is designed to meet the needs of people who have questions about the Christian faith and who desire a deeper engagement with scripture and with discipleship as they explore studies of issues in theology, ethics, missions, Bible interpretation, and church history.  It seeks to equip a new generation of church leaders to appreciate the eternal message of the gospel and to develop the skills to articulate its relevance in our contemporary context.  The series would be a good choice for users who have completed Disciple.
This book explores the relationship between biblical interpretation and faith development.  It addresses key questions about the many different ways that people of faith interpret the Bible in order to grow in their faith. Ted Leach will write an introduction in which he will talk about the many questions people have raised during Bible studies in his own ministry over the years.  The book will explore issues of biblical interpretation and faith development in the following sessions:

Session 1. Who wrote the Bible? Focus: This session explores how the Bible was written how it became the primary resource for learning and growing in Christian faith .
Session 2.  How is the Bible authoritative for members of the faith Community? Focus: This session explores some of the ways people of faith read the Bible and find within it guidance and meaning for their daily lives.  It will help us affirm our ways  of reading and interpreting the Bible as we respect the various and perhaps quite different ways other people read and interpret the Bible.
Session 3.  What does the Bible say to us about God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit? Focus: This session explores the Bible as the primary source for the Judeo-Christian understanding of God.
Session 4.  What does the Bible say to us about what it means to be human? Focus: This session explores what the Bible teaches about both human failure and human potential in light of God's grace.
Session 5.  Do the Bible and Science Conflict? Focus: This session explores the tensions many people of faith perceive between biblical stories and the tools of science.
Session 6. How does the Bible help us pray and worship ? Focus: This session explores how the Bible informs prayer, other spiritual disciplines, and worship.
Session 7.  How does the Bible offer help and hope for contemporary life?  Focus:  This session will help individuals and communities of faith delve more deeply into the Bible as a guide for daily living in the diverse cultures of today's world.
