James W. Moore
The Rev. Dr. James W. "Jim" Moore is a bestselling author of over 40 books. He is an acclaimed preacher and pastor and is an ordained elder in the United Methodist Church. He served as Senior Pastor of St. Luke's United Methodist Church in Houston from 1984 to 2006. In 2006, after 50 years of active ministry, he retired from full-time ministry in the Texas Conference of the UMC and moved to the Dallas area. He is currently serving as Minister in Residence at Highland Park United Methodist Church.
Dr. Moore attended Lambuth College, Methodist Theological School and Centenary College. His first appointment was as Associate Pastor of the First United Methodist Church of Jackson, Tennessee, followed by Associate Director of the Memphis Conference Council on Ministries. He served as co-pastor of First United Methodist Church of Shreveport, with Dr. D. L. Dykes, Jr. before beginning his long tenure at St. Luke’s UMC in Houston.
He is the author of Yes, Lord, I Have Sinned, but I Have Several Excellent Excuses; God Was Here, and I Was Out to Lunch; When Grief Breaks Your Heart; There’s a Hole in Your Soul That Only God Can Fill; and many other books. As well as his inspiring books on Christian life, Dr. Moore penned a six study series on the parables. The James W. Moore Award for Inspirational Writing was established at Abingdon Press in 2007 to encourage and support new authors to, as Dr. Moore has done, demonstrate the challenge, the hope, and the consolation of the Gospel. He and his wife, June, live at Heritage Ranch in Fairview, Texas.
