(Nashville, TN)—Royalties from the upcoming devotional We Pray with Her: Encouragement for All Women Who Lead (Abingdon Press, $16.99, September 4, 2018) will fund scholarships through the General Board of Higher Education & Ministry for young women pursuing a seminary education. In addition to the royalties from the book, the writers are fundraising for the scholarship.

The We Pray with Her group is a grassroots collective of United Methodist clergywomen under the age of 40 who are called to encourage other women in leadership through writings and prayers.

“We believe women in leadership need devotions as a way to connect with God during the daily challenges and joys that are a part of leading while female,” says Emily Peck-McClain, one of the five editors for the book. “This scholarship is another outlet of that calling, as we support the next generation of clergywomen who are breaking the stained glass ceiling.”

The new book encourages women who lead in a variety of ways, not just at church, and in addition to 100 devotions, We Pray with Her includes prayers for special challenges such as A Prayer for Boldness; A Prayer at the Time of Burnout; and A Prayer for When Someone Asks, Again, Why You Don’t Have Children. The devotions are divided into five sections – Call, Struggle, Courage, Resistance, and Persistence – and cover the many aspects of the female experience.

About We Pray with Her: Nearly 70 United Methodist clergywomen (elders and deacons) have written devotions and prayers in the book. These women serve all over the country, from upstate New York to the West Coast to Atlanta to rural North Dakota. They also serve in a variety of ministerial roles in the local church, chaplaincy, academia, and more. The editorial board includes Rev. Paige Boyer, Rev. Shannon Sullivan, Rev. Emily Peck-McClain, Rev. Jen Tyler, and Rev. Danyelle Trexler.
