John the Baptist, locked in prison, sent word to Jesus: "Are you the one who is to come, or should we look for another?" It is a question that sounds like doubt. But The Way of Holiness: A Wesleyan Journey Through Lent reframes it as a question of direction--one worth asking yourself every week of the Lenten season: "Am I truly following Jesus, or have I quietly drifted toward another center?"
This six-week Lenten study draws on Matthew's Gospel, John Wesley's theology of holiness, and the Great Commandment to offer six practices of holy love that help believers keep their lives oriented toward Christ. Lead contributor Magrey R. deVega, senior pastor of Hyde Park United Methodist Church in Tampa, Florida, and author of more than a dozen books, including Embracing the Uncertain, Questions Jesus Asked, and The Christmas Letters, heads a team of contributors who guide readers through each dimension of that love--of God, of neighbor, of self--not as a self-improvement project, but as a faithful response to grace. Rooted in Scripture and shaped by Wesleyan wisdom, the study guides participants toward a life marked not just by belief but by faithful action.

About the Authors
Magrey deVega
Magrey R. deVega is the Senior Pastor at Hyde Park United Methodist Church in Tampa, Florida. He is the author of over a dozen books, including Questions Jesus Asked, The Christmas Letters, The Bible Year, Savior, Hope for Hard Times, Almost Christmas, and One Faithful Promise. He is also a contributor to numerous publications on preaching, worship design, and the spiritual life. He is the proud father of two daughters, Grace and Madelyn.
Matt Rawle
Matt Rawle is a dynamic pastor, author, speaker, and futurist who masterfully explores the intersection of faith and contemporary culture. Matt is the author of The Final Days, The Heart that Grew Three Sizes, and The Grace of Les Misérables.
Currently serving as lead pastor of St. Matthew’s United Methodist Church in Metairie, Louisiana, and Carrollton United Methodist Church in New Orleans, Louisiana, Matt continues to inspire communities to discover the profound way that spirituality intersects with culture, creativity, and everyday life.
Susan Robb
Susan Robb’s call to ministry led her to leave her career to pursue a Master’s of Divinity degree at Perkins School of Theology at Southern Methodist University. She graduated magna cum laude in 2006 with an award in homiletics. Susan’s area of expertise lies in writing and teaching Bible studies and exploring the idea of listening to and responding to God’s call. She is the author of Called: Hearing and Responding to God’s Voice, Seven Words, and The Angels of Christmas. Susan is the former senior associate minister at Highland Park United Methodist Church in Dallas, Texas, where she was part of the church staff for 20 years. She is married to Ike, and they have two children, Caroline and James.
Josh Scott
Josh Scott has been a pastor for the last two decades, spending 14 years leading a progressive church in rural Kentucky before moving to Nashville and serving as the Lead Pastor at GracePointe Church in April 2019. Josh is an active voice in the conversation of imagining the future of progressive Christianity, with the focus of his work on reimagining, reframing, and reclaiming faith through a progressive Christian lens, while making those concepts and ideas practically accessible. He lives near Nashville, Tennessee with his wife, Carla, and five kids.
Brett Opalinski
Brett Opalinski is an ordained United Methodist elder from the Florida Annual Conference. He has served in local churches for over 20 years, as well as chaired the Board of Ordained Ministry for the Florida Annual Conference. He is a Candler graduate and has a PhD in New Testament and Early Christianity from Iliff School of Theology/University of Denver. He has been a long-time social justice and civil rights advocate, working in issues related to anti-racism, LGBTQ+ rights, poverty, and criminal justice reform, and is committed to helping local churches (and the General Church) engage the world in a way that makes the Kingdom of God visible.
His research interests include Methodist history/theology, Monasticism, Celtic Christianity, Contemplative Spirituality, and New Monastic expressions of church community.
